Bath Salts (4)

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, everyone is looking for that perfect gift.  Something that says I love you and am thankful for all you have done for me.  Well, look no further!  I have a great homemade gift that is fast, easy, inexpensive, and best of all it’s even good for you!  Today I am going to show you the ease of making your own bath salts.

Supply list:
Epsom Salt
Baking Soda
Table Salt
Glass Jars (I bought these jars from Ikea)
Essential Oils

Bath Salts (1)

Making bath salts is probably the easiest thing on the planet.  If you can stir, you can make them!   Grab a bowl, a spoon, and a measuring cup.  The ratio is simple:

3 parts Epsom Salt, 2 parts Baking Soda, 1 part Table Salt

For these particular jars (they are 5 oz. jars), you will need 6 tbsp. Epson Salt, 4 tbsp. Baking Soda, & 2 Tbsp. Salt.  It will perfectly fill them to the brim.  If you are using different sized jars you can adjust it accordingly.  And you can make a big batch of it, then separate it into smaller bowls as you add the different scents.

Once you mix the epsom salt, baking soda & table salt togther, choose your essential oil.   You can experiment with how much oil to add.  I recommend for the stronger smelling oils, like Lavender & Peppermint to add roughly 1 drop per ounce, so I did 5 drops of Lavender in the example above.  The citrus oils (Lemon, Lime, Wild Orange, etc.) you can add a little more.  Some people prefer it really strong smelling, some like it milder.  So add a few drops and find the right amount for you.   Once I added the Lavender oil,  I tried to chop it up a bit with the spoon so it gets evenly dispersed.

And that’s it!  You are done.  Make sure to store the bath salts in an airtight glass jar.  Tie on some twine since we all know I love it, add a cute tag (made with those cute circle punches from Joann’s or you can get the EK Success Paper Shapers 2-Inch X-Large Scallop Circle Nesting Punch from Amazon – via Prime!) and you have a fabulous little gift.  Perfect for pretty much any occasion!

And why stop at just one kind?  A variety makes a nice addition and they look so pretty:)  And now you are thinking, this looks easy and fun, but I don’t own any Essential Oils.  No problem!  Heather and I both sell doTERRA and you can easily purchase some by visiting Heather’s online doTERRA shop.

The doTERRA intro kit is perfect because it comes with Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint as shown above! That gives you a quick start on making your own Essential Oil Homemade Bath Salts. Furthermore…Lavender, Lemon & Peppermint are know as the allergy trio.  Taken together they can kill the worst allergies, naturally.  No more drugs!  Lavender is great for all things calming.  I use it a lot for bug bites, burns, anything itchy.  Lemon is great for cleaning, for drinking in your water to detox, and to help brighten your mood.  Peppermint is great for tummy aches, fevers, headaches, and clearing away stuffiness.  These are just a few of the ways I use these three but there are many more!  Looking around on doTERRA’s site you can find many recipes and ideas for using your oils!

Are you ready to give them a try and make your own bath salts {and more}?
