Not only does the fall weather bring about recipes involving pumpkin, but it seems there are lots of apple recipes too. As people take their families apple picking they look for new and excited recipes to try with their apples. Have you ever had a deconstructed apple? Now is the time – try this Deconstructed Green Apple with Peanut Butter Caramel Filling recipe.

Granny Smith apples are my favorite, but they sure can be tart!  Add caramel and peanut butter and the tartness is a thing of the past! Of course, you can use any apples you want for this recipe – pick your favorite and get creative! As a fan of caramel apples so I’m excited that this is a new take on the traditional caramel apple. This one, though, might be better enjoyed with a knife and fork, and shared with a friend. Depending on the size of your apples your treat could be pretty large!

Deconstructed Green Apple with Peanut Butter Caramel Filling {recipe}

Let’s grab the ingredients and make this yummy treat!

Ingredients:

  • Granny Smith Apples (or whatever kind you prefer)
  • 1 Jar of Caramel Sauce
  • 10 – 12 caramel squares
  • 1 Cup of Peanut Butter
  • Wax Paper
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Kabob Sticks

Deconstructed Green Apple with Peanut Butter Caramel Filling {recipe}

Directions:

1. Rinse and dry apples, remove stem and insert Popsicle sticks.
2. Use enough wax paper to accommodate two apples.
3. In a medium sauce pan add peanut butter, caramel sauce and caramel squares and stir until ingredients are incorporated and still thick you want a spreadable consistency. Remove from heat and let cool.
4. Slice apples, but keep then in the order you sliced them so you can stack them back in the same order.
5. Starting with the bottom slice add a dollop of the caramel and peanut butter mixture, add another slice of apple and add another dollop. Keep alternating layers until finished.
6. Drizzle with chocolate syrup
7. Place apples into the refrigerator to prevent melting until ready to serve.
